Default need help to install FreeBSD 6 series on my Intel based pc

Hello and my Regards to All Unix Experts

I am a newbie in Unix platform, but using Windows family for more than 10 years. I have a PC with the following specifications, I need to know that can I install FreeBSD 6.1 or 6.2 on that or not. I would appreciate your help.
INTEL Pentium4 D series processor, Gigabyte 945 PL-S series mother board, SATA 250GB Western Digital HDD, NVIDIA NX7300GT video card.

Would anyone please tell me are the specifications are compatible with FreeBSD or not. Besides this I am having lots of problems with downloading FreeBSD 6.2 from web, can anyone tell me some other sites also, and, how to download.

Regards

ATA

Hello,

Welcome to forum!

You can check your hardware against FreeBSD HAL. Most NVIDA cards are supported and SATA out of box. In some case you need to download latest kernel and recompile kernel.
http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.2R/hardware-i386.html

You can download FreeBSD from any one of the mirror site:
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/re...SO-IMAGES/6.2/

Are you new to UNIX? If so I recommend getting Ubuntu Linux which is much better if you would like to run Desktop system.

Let me know if you need any further help !
