Hi All:

Is anybody using BSNL broadband with BSD, If yes then what dialer are you using to dial in ? I'm using SuSE at home (planning for BSD) and kinternet really works well with it. Is there any dialer in bsd like kinternet ? I'm unable to find kinternet after installing/extracting new ports directory. whereis kinternet command is not showing anything. ;-(

Please let me know the alternative for kinternet in BSD.

That is the problem with nix/bsd oses. You should always get a DSL router, you should not depend upon driver. If your isp does not provides a router get the brand new one. It will hardly cost $20-40

I am not personally using BSD and dont know if there is any dialer under BSD. But I do know that if you are using the Hauwei Smart AX MT 882 modem that BSNL provides, then it sure is a router.

I never knew that it was a router. Only after I searched the broadband forums, I got an idea. For this to work, uou need to connect to the modem using its ethernet port and not your USB port.

We need to set the IP address of the BSD(which I think will be easy) to 192.168.1.2 and use a browser to login to the Hauwei Modem thru http://192.168.1.1

Ususally when we use the dialers in the OSes, we make the OS dial. But when we use the Modem/Router to do it for us, the OS is just not considered. We just need to set the gateway of the BSD to be the router.

Well Ricc, I totally agree with you but we need to put username and password before connecting. When I configured Hauwei for the first time, it has taken a IP from BSNL DHCP, I have not given any IP address or DNS server while configuring the broadband. I dont have any static IP with me for this broadband connection. My router is having 4 rj45 ports and one of them is going to my systems NIC.

I have also gone through the GIU part but it's not giving me any option to put in username and password.

I will have a look at wvdial and will update you rock.

Need some more study on this router, I will be doing it in this weekend.

Hey I am not a networking guru

But if you have router just open the web interface and setup username and password for dialing up.

I am using Linksys wireless router before that I had netgear all of them support dialing out feature

Also setup BSD/Linux box to route traffic from this router
