Thread: NIC status Down

I have 2 NIC's. First one is fxp0 is connected to ISP gateway, but another one rl0 is connected to LAN. When FBSD starts up it shows both cards and seems ok, but rl0 status it shows like DOWN. From FBSD i can ping through fxp0 all pc's and through rl0 i can ping my lan pc, but from lan pc i can't ping FBSD gateway.

Where is the problem?

What do you see when you run ifconfig? What about firewall?

When FBSD boots up I see:

net.inet6.ip6.auto_linklocal: 1 -> 0
rl0: link state changed to DOWN
rl0: link state changed to UP

maybe I have a ipv6 and have to change it manually to ipv4?
if so, how can i make it?

in ifconfig rl0 status is active
i use ipf

Is your ifconfig_rl0 statement in /etc/rc.conf setup correctly for IPv4.
Class C Example:

ifconfig_rl0="inet 192.168.xxx.xxx netmask 255.255.255.0"

Otherwise, I would suggest that your IPF configuration is blocking ICMP echo request and echo reply messages on the rl0 interface. Personally, I prefer PF to IPF.
