There are different types of DOS/DDoS attacks. Do you know attack type and size?

DoS can be usually handled but DDoS based attacks are dangerous.

Firewall can prevent few attack but remember that a firewall is not a DDoS migration solution.

Firewall works at layer 3 / 4 and allows or denies traffic as per rule set. If attack is from particular subnet you can simply block the entire subnet

Let me know if you need any further information
