I want the working funda behind sendmail

1) On what basis it will differentiates local mail accounts with Internet mail account

i have a network in which linux box acting as Mail server for local users, now i want to set up this box also to Mail Router from Internet.

Clients are using MS Outlook for mail sending and retrival.
pl. give the experimental things
