I haven't heard Sun 8-core UltraSparc for sometimes ever since Sun announced marketing it as component in mid 2007. I'm interested on 8-core cpu for server. Have you had any info on 8-core UltraSparc? Sun is now dumping their 6-core cpu servers.

i will have to start by askin "pardon me, i didnt get what you are trying to say."
AFAIK? there is nothing called as 8-core. octal core is like well 2020 technology. if SUN gives octal arch CPU or any octal compatible device then i am sorry to admin i am a novice.
in 2006 i saw a video from AMD which boasted about AMD releasing its quad core aka phenom. but they and intel had to resolve one issue on SSE and SSE2 and intel was paid some amount by AMD for using its patented technology.
else you are trying to say a mobo chipset with 8 mono and/or dual and/or quad core processors? is it? oh well? if thats so? then try to grab this guy his name is *nanosync* "a very short tempered rude guy" and one of my excellent friend in efnet. he runs/admins the MIT's internet-II project and he manages 30 clusters where one of the sun's firebird which he manages has got 64 CPU's dual core and massive power.

and RAM? hehe forget it, they got networked RAM. the central node is the most powerful i have heard of/seen back in 2005 and it even gave the 7 th fastest supercomputer a major fight.
then i spoke with some of glusterfs glusterfs is again super computing node file system with fiber lan and also shared RAM and also they use the hard drive at times as RAM.

try checking the real stats from real people. and make sure you are polite with them. i got stung with sting rays from then will million volts a couple of times for being arrogant and later pulled into the team.
oh by the way i was in touch with a few indian uCPU dev guys in AMD way back, and they said if they get though quad core? they will then go for hexacore (hexa=six and not hex which is 2 base 16).
ultra sparc? why ultrasparc? so you want to go for hardcore 64 bit technology straight from SUN? and i still trying to guess what were you trying to say? you want octal core CPU or you want a chipset where you may have the sockets for 8 CPU. both sounds similar but are way different.
(1x8 != 2x8 != 4x8 != 8x

!= (1x8x8 != 2x8x8 != 4x8x8 != 8x8x

if you know set theory? the octal core aka 8 CPU core in one CPU chipset dye _IS HUGE_ and you may have computational power in gigaflops flops is the unit used to measure mathematical functions.
choice is yours. whether you want to go for SUN's 8-core or SUN's octalcore with SMP option.

hope i am clear.
