Red face VNC Problem

Hi all,

I am a newbie to Linux administration but I am eager to learn as we are moving more and more to Linux Servers in our org.

We will be moving our oracle 10g to run on Linux from windows. I installed Linux redhat ES 5 to, I configured VNCSERVER, add ports used by VNC in IPTALBLES then edited xstartup to allow gnome to load. When I try to access the box from windows XP using vnc viewer all I get is a grey window with the manager. I contacted red hat support they emailed me instructions on how to configure VNCSERVER still didn’t work. I run a sysreport send it to them but they have not responded with any solutions. I am turning to this form for help.

Thanks in advance.

Linux newbie J
