Default Redhat: Up2date " permission denied" while root

Hi,

Let me start by saying i am new to the redhat family.
I am used to simpel Opensuse installs and the occasional ubuntu install.
Now i am starting a Redhat enterprise install and i get stuck at the prompt sorta say.

i printed out the RHN Quick STart Guide and at the start it says i have to register to their network to get an activation key.
The first thing it says is to run up2date --register as root.
But when i do that, i get " bash permission denied.
????

Then someone suggested to use the old command " rhn_register --proxy=
This produces a screen that starts connecting to "https://xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com/xmlrpc"
After awhile i get an error that asks if the URL is correct.
I dont know where to set the URL myself, so i guess its ok.

Anyone got any ideas?
Am i starting this the wrong way??... or is that URL not correct maybe?

Thnx in advance
